CHENNAI: The State government on Saturday will publish the results of written tests for recruitment of assistants for 16 district central cooperative banks, according to Minister for Cooperation Ko.Si. Mani.Reacting to All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa's demand for transparent and honest valuation of the answer papers, Mr. Mani said the tests were held on September 24 for the 17 district central cooperative banks. The previous day, three cases relating to the recruitment came up before the Madras High Court and six petitions before the Madurai Bench.

A petitioner had approached the court against conducting the test for the Erode District Central Cooperative Bank. The court had ordered that the results should not be released till further orders. Moreover, the need for seeking legal opinion had arisen, as it was mentioned that steps to fill the vacancies were against the rules of the banks. So, the results for the tests held in respect of the 17 banks could not be published on the evening of September 24, and it was announced that they would be released later.

According to the legal opinion, obtained on Tuesday (September 30), the injunction would apply only in the case of Erode, and there was no hurdle to the release of the results for other districts, Mr. Mani said. The results could not be released in view of the public holidays on Wednesday and Thursday.

He condemned Ms. Jayalalithaa for her statement, which, he said, was meant to denigrate the government's image. As for Villupuram, Mr. Mani said the examination was scheduled for September 24, but cancelled in view of an order issued by the High Court Bench in a pending case.Mr. Mani explained that of the 23 district central cooperative banks, steps were originally taken to fill 514 vacancies in 18 banks by getting the lists of eligible candidates from employment exchanges.
