Blood donation camp

NEW DELHI: Sant Nirankari Mandal organised a blood donation camp at Nirankari Satsang Bhawan in Govindpuri here over the weekend. A large number of people from Kalkaji, Chittaranjan Park, Greater Kailash, Alaknanda and other areas donated 204 units of blood. Pyara Singh Mukhi of the Govindpuri branch of the Mandal said 281 such camps would be organised up to the year-end.

CUDDALORE: The students' wing of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, led by K.Vanchinathan, started a blood donation campaign here on Wednesday to coincide with the 86th birthday celebrations of Chief Minister M. Karuananidhi.

Some members, including Mr. Vanchinathan, donated blood. A medical team led by S. Paranjothi, Medical Superintendent of Cuddalore District Headquarters Hospital, was present.

Book bank invites applications

CHENNAI: The Jaigopal Garodia Charitable Book Bank invites applications from college students for free books to be distributed by the organisation.

The application forms are available on 6, Seventh Street, U-block, Anna Nagar, on all weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A press release said that students applying for the free books would have to get authentication from their college authorities.

At present, the book bank houses about 30,000 books worth Rs.70 lakh. Students from nearly 30 colleges across the State have benefited so far.

The applications may also be obtained by post by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope.

The applications could also be downloaded from www.jgvvbookbank.org.

Completed applications with the required supporting documents must be submitted in person.

The borrowed books must be returned to the organisation after the examinations. For further information, contact 26206261.

Chennai: Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverage Pvt. Ltd in association with Dr.M.G.R.Medical University and Chennai Corporation Aids Prevention and Control Society organised a blood donation camp recently. A total of 50 employees participated, according to a press release.

Blood donation camp conducted

PUDUCHERRY: To mark the culmination of its centenary year celebrations, Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, in collaboration with Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), conducted a blood donation camp on Sunday.

According to members of the Parish Council of the church, a total of 103 persons, including 32 women, donated blood. The church has organised the blood donation camp for the sixth consecutive year. In the last six years, the church has been maintaining a database of blood donors of different blood groups to cater to the emergency requirements of any hospital. So far, around 350 persons find place in the database. In case of emergency, the church could be contacted at 2228916 and 2225559, the members said.

Rector from Chennai Fr. A. Savio Samuel inaugurated the camp in the presence of Parish Priest of the church Fr. A. Thomas.

JNTU-K organises blood donation camp

Kakinada: Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi has called upon the people to be aware of blood donation so that they could save lives of patients with cancer, malaria, blood diseases, victims of accidents and other contingencies. He observed that giving blood twice or thrice a year would not cause any harm to donor and only full awareness in this regard would dispel such wrong notions. Speaking at a blood donation camp organised at the Civil Engineering Department of JNTU-Kakinada by the District AIDS Control Society and Rotary Blood Bank on the occasion of the 6th World Blood Donor Day on Sunday, Mr. Dwivedi said blood donors come from all walks of life and, it was estimated that only one per cent of the world's population donates blood in a year.

ANANTAPUR: Speakers at the blood donation awareness meeting held here at the Government General Hospital on Monday night have appealed to the people to put the district on the headlines as 'the place for blood donation and not as the place for bloodshed'.

The theme of the meeting organised by the district Police department was donating blood and making others donate blood too. The campaign was conceived by Superintendent of Police M.K. Singh last month.

The police have formed a volunteer system wherein 10 persons from different municipal divisions will donate or make others donate blood every day. The awareness meet was held for volunteers of the campaign.

Speaking at the meet, government Whip S. Sailajanath, Mayor R. Parasuram and the SP stated that blood donation was one of the noblest acts and it should be taken up by everybody with "one for all and all for one" concept.
Inspiration

The campaign taken up here should inspire other districts to follow suit, they said.

They told the volunteers to allay misgivings about blood donation among general public.

Blood donation by healthy persons would save lives of others, they noted. A monitoring committee would be formed to oversee the campaign to be launched from July 1.

Those willing to donate blood could approach the police at the police outpost in the hospital. District secretary of Indian Red Cross Society Y. Ramasubbaiah, GGH Superintendent of G. Jagannath, Deputy Superintendent of Police Anantapur D. Satyanarayana Rao and others participated.

The SP offered to make the hospital premises clean and green soon with the help of police personnel.

SBI employees donate blood

VISAKHAPATNAM: Marking the State Bank Day, 54 employees of the bank donated blood on Thursday.

The camp, conducted at the administrative wing at Siripuram, was inaugurated by General Manager (administration) S.V.S. Ram Prasad. A medical team of the Indian Red Cross, led by Ajanta Baruah, conducted the camp. State Bank Officers' Association deputy general secretary S.N. Sahu and SBI Staff Union deputy general secretary J.P. Sarma participated.

The bank's port branch conducted a medical camp under the Community Services Banking on Wednesday.

Financial Advisor and Chief Accounts Officer of the Port Trust K.V. Gupta inaugurated the camp. Assistant General Manager, region – 1, D.S.R.K. Saibaba, presided. Retired chief medical officer of HSL K. Muralidhar and retired medical officer of the port trust V.S. Viswanadham and V.V. Nayak and R. Madhuri examined 200 persons at the camp.

A signature campaign was conducted by AP Medical and Sales Representatives Union seeking rollback of the prices of essential commodities.

FMRAI national secretary Kameswara Rao, APMRSU vice president M. Subrahmanyam, Vizag district unit leaders P. Sudhakar and MVRS Srikanth were among those who participated in the campaign.
Spiritual programme

A three-day 'sangeeta dhyana yagnam' will be organised by the Vizag Pyramid Spiritual Society at CMR Function Hall at Venkojipalem from July 5.

Addressing a media conference on Thursday, society president P.V. Reddy Naidu said that the programme would be conducted under the aegis of Brahmarshi Patriji.

The programme would be held from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. on all the three days.

Patriji would enthral the participants with his flute recital.

Blood donation camp held

COIMBATORE: Indian Oil Corporation held a blood donation camp in the city on Saturday to mark its Golden Jubilee celebrations.

More than 60 people, including the employees of IOC and also LPG distributors and their staff donated blood, a press release from the IOC said.

On seeing a sizeable gathering of donors, playback singer Malaysia Vasudevan, who was staying in the neighbourhood while on a visit to the city, visited the camp along with his guests from Malaysia. Mr. Vasudevan said he was overwhelmed by the response for a social cause.

Similar blood donation camps by other units of IOC like LPG Bottling Plant at Kinathukadavu and bulk LPG terminal at Irugur were also organised during last week.

Blood donation mela planned on October 1

VISAKHAPATNAM:
Several programmes are planned including a donation mela to mark World Blood Donation Day on October 1, according to Additional District Medical and Health Officer (HIV and AIDS) P. Rajendra Prasad.

Rallies will be conducted at several places by the APSACS in coordination with National Service Scheme volunteers.

A rally will start from Bullayya College and culminate at Dr. V.S. Krishna Government College where a donation mela will be conducted.

The following day, the Stamps and Registration Department will conduct a blood donation camp at Yelamanchili. Manual Welfare Association will organise a camp at Gnanapuram in the city on October 4 and at Kommadi by Gayathri Engineering College on October 6.

At the initiative of mandal parishad president D. Gopalakrishna Murthy, a mega camp will be conducted at the mandal headquarters on October 7.
