LG is best known for handsets, washers and flat-screen TVs. LG phone handsets look set to become the world's third-bestselling brand this year, overtaking Motorola.

Moody's Investors Service recently changed the outlook for Korea-based electronics manufacturer LG Electronics' 'Baa3' issuer rating and senior unsecured rating to positive from stable, citing improvements in the company's credit profile and balance sheet.

According to the geancy, "Although the operating environment is expected to become more challenging -- given the global economic slowdown and a potential LCD panel industry downturn over the next 12-18 months -- LGE's healthy balance sheet and the strong profitability in its handset division should establish a buffer against such volatility."

This month the company unveiled LG-KC910, the first 8 megapixel multimedia phone with a full touchscreen interface. It is said to boast top-of-the-range camera capabilities, latest multimedia features and at just 13.95 mm thick, it's also claimed to be the slimmest 8 megapixel camera phone in the market.
