14 Educators Get CBSE Teacher Awards

NEW DELHI:
Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development M.A.A. Fatmi felicitated educators with the Central Board of Secondary Education Teacher Awards-2007 at a function here on Thursday.Fourteen teachers of CBSE-affiliated schools were awarded on the basis of their academic efficiency, genuine interest and innovations in education, involvement in social life and reputation in the local community.

The CBSE Teacher Awards were instituted by the HRD Ministry in 2000. Each award comprises a merit certificate, a shawl and a cash prize of Rs.25,000. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Fatmi underscored the quality of teachers in providing quality education. "We need good quality teachers. We will require more teachers as we will soon increase the number of schools in a big way," he added. Union Secretary (Elementary Education and Literacy) A.K. Rath said the CBSE should be emulated as a model by the other educational boards in the country.

The following teachers were awarded: Paramjit Kaur, Rita Gupta, Premlata Garg, Captain (Retd.) V.K. Verma, T. Venkatesan, Sugeeta P., Abdul Rab Khan, Deshbir Singh, A.N. Pandit, Mandira Chanda, Subhash Chand Dixit, V.R. Palaniswamy, Mahesh Chand and Shalini Khanna.

Teachers with at least 15 years of regular teaching experience and Headmasters with 20 years of regular teaching in recognised primary/middle/secondary or higher secondary schools are eligible for the awards.Joint Secretary S.C. Khuntia and CBSE Chairman Vineet Joshi were among those present at the ceremony.
