In-Plant Training Offered to Engineering Students

TIRUCHI: The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Tiruchi, has thrown open its infrastructure for engineering students to undergo in-plant training.The public sector telecommunication major has signed memoranda of understanding with 13 engineering colleges under the Anna University, Tiruchi, so far for providing the training to the engineering students. The colleges were among the 23 institutions which have been provided bandwidth connectivity by the BSNL.

We have some of the best telecommunication equipment and students could get hands on training through them. We are willing to accommodate more engineering colleges under the training programme, A.Balraj, Principal General Manager, BSNL, Tiruchi, told reporters here on Tuesday.

Already about 5,000 students have been provided the training. Students could also opt to undergo training at the BSNL's Training Centre at Chennai.BSNL was providing employment to unemployed youths in rural areas by taking them as direct selling agents with substantial commissions on generating new business.

Prepaid serviceMr.Balraj announced that the BSNL has launched pre-paid service for wireless in local loop connections with limited mobility on the code division multiple access (CDMA) network in Tiruchi region.

The connections would be offered under four tariff plans with initial payments ranging from Rs.225 (without handset) to Rs.2,325 (with handset).Three types of handsets would be available. The service would include short messaging service facility. Data service would also be available soon.

About 600 connections would be provided under each of the 14 short distance charging areas under Tiruchi BSNL.
Optional planBSNL has also introduced an optional plan _ Gramin-75 _ for rural customers and reduced the fixed monthly charge of Sulab Plan to Rs.99 a month from Rs.120. It has also launched a promotional plan, 'Oorum Uravum,' for rural customers where universal service obligation-funded towers were available.

An online counter for payment of landline telephone bills has been opened at K.K.Nagar. Evolution data only (EVDO) service has been introduced in the Main Guard Gate Telephone Exchange in Tiruchi under which subscribers can avail of high-speed Internet connections.Mr.Balraj said the BSNL would commission about 121 additional Base Tower Stations by November in Tiruchi region.
