Response from students of higher education was overwhelming as bankers at an education loan mela conducted by the lead bank at the Collectorate here on Friday received 504 petitions seeking education loan for various courses.The loan mela was presided over by the lead bank manager, P. Jambunathan.

Branch managers of 40 banks in the district assembled at one place and sorted out eligible petitions. Even reason for rejection of applications was given to petitioners on the spot. Parents and students directly interacted with branch managers concerned for loan.

Responding to charges against several private bankers who denied educational loan to rural students, Mr. Jambunathan appealed to private bankers to give equal importance to education loan. "After finalising petitions, there should not delay in disbursal of loan."
