Photoshop is a raster graphics editing program
Photoshop can be used to edit photos, create graphics for web and paint illustrations.
Raster means it's based on pixels.

Illustrator and CorelDraw are both vector graphics tools
They're used primarily for designing logos and graphics for print, as well as cartoons that use fewer color transitions.
Vectors are scalable, which means that whatever you create in vectors you can resize to a billboard size if you wanted to.

Corel's alternatives to Photoshop are Corel Photo-Paint and CorelPainter. The second one is specialized for painting, ie. emulating traditional painting techniques and does so much better than Photoshop.
