Statement on Latest Jallikattu Developments as on Peta India blog like website

Posted on January 22, 2017 at 7:47 am by PETA

The following is a statement from P Sreenivasa, PETA India's legal counsel, about the latest developments regarding jallikattu:

Cruelty to animals, children, the elderly, or any other vulnerable being is morally repugnant. As Mahatma Gandhi said, "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated ". What then will images of men pouncing on a frightened bull and of bulls – sometimes liquored up, with deliberately broken tails and chilli peppers stuffed into their eyes, trying to flee and breaking their bones – and humans getting hurt and even killed during jallikattu events say about our nation? All kind and decent people believe that one day, all blood sports worldwide – from fox hunting and dogfighting to bullfighting and jallikattu – will be relegated to the history books.
