NYU launches largest student hacking competition On worldwide


Last year, over 15,000 students attended and competed in preliminary rounds in order to reach the finals in six separate competitions. This year, which is the 11th CSAW event, the winners of the preliminary hacking rounds will travel to Brooklyn, NYC to compete for scholarships and prizes.

The competition finals will take place 13 – 15 November.

Dubbed 'Capture the Flag,' the hacking event includes the testing and securing of hardware, quizzes and research submissions. In addition, new this year, students will also compete to develop the best cybersecurity public policy.

Yahoo's chief information security officer Alex Stamos will be in attendance, and will deliver the keynote address during the Finalist Reception on November 13. Stamos's talk, "Shaping the Future: Spies, Cyber Crimes, and Your Career," will explore historical and ethical debates within the field, as well as discuss his own experiences in protecting the data of Yahoo users.
