Cochin University of Science and Technology
Mathematician to speak: S.R. Srinivasa Varadhan, renowned mathematician and winner of the Abel Prize, will participate in the mathematics meet to be held at Cochin University campus on Friday. He will deliver the Indian Academy of Science platinum jubilee lecture on the occasion of the symposium on 'probability theory and stochastic processes', being held as part of the meet. Prof. Varadhan won Steele Prize instituted by the American Mathematical Society in 1996 for his work on diffusion processes done in association with Daniel W. Stroock. He won the Abel Prize instituted by the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters for his work on large deviations. This work was done in association with M.D. Donsker. Prof. Varadhan was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2008. He is also a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.

Workshop: Sophisticated Test and Instrumentation Centre (STIC) at the Cochin University of Science and Technology will organise a two-day workshop on 'thermal analysis techniques' on February 20 and 21. Researchers, scientists, teachers, and engineers who are interested in participating in the event should apply to director, STIC, on or before February 10. National conference: The department of computer science at Rajagiri College of Social Sciences will organise a national conference on 'computational science and engineering' at its Hill campus in Kalamassery on Friday and Thursday. The conference aims at providing the participants with an opportunity to present their ideas in related conference theme and to know more about the recent trends in the area of computational science and engineering, according to a release. Gangan Prathap, Vice-Chancellor of the Cochin University of Science and Technology, will inaugurate the programme. Academicians and IT professionals from various institutions and the industry will participate.

Commerce projects: Cochin College has won two of the six major projects on commerce sanctioned by the University Grants Commission in the State under the 11th Five Year Plan. The projects were submitted by Dr. M. C. Dileepkumar, and Dr. R. Vasanthagopal, according to a release issued by the principal. The college has also invited applications for the post of two project fellows to work in these two projects. Qualification, age and remuneration will be as per the UGC norms. Candidates who wish to join may report for an interview at 3 p.m. on February 6 at the Principal's office. They should bring copies of all certificates and curriculum vitae.

Campus directory published

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In connection with its 33rd year of existence, the Kerala University Campus Association has published a 'Campus Directory' containing detailed information of the academic and non-academic personnel on the campus.

The directory also contains phone numbers of institutions, hospitals and schools in and around the capital city. According to association general secretary and lecturer at the Department of Library and Information Science K.G. Sudhier, the aim of the directory is to widen the world of information for those living on the campus.
