VELLORE: An entry in the Limca Book of Records-2008 states that G. Navakumar of Vellore painted the portrait of saint poet Tiruvalluvar on a canvas of 133 feet x 60 feet."He started the art work on December 7, 2006 in the basketball court at Sunbeam Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Mettukulam, Katpadi and completed it five days later. The reason G. Navakumar decided to paint a 133-foot portrait of the poet was because Tirukkural, the work of Tiruvalluvar, has 133 chapters, and hence, one foot per chapter."

It further mentions that the painting was done on a 350-metre-long cloth, and that Sri Narayani Peedam, Thirumalaikkodi, Vellore sponsored his project.Twenty-five-year-old Mr. Navakumar, who is currently working as an art teacher in the Seventh Day Adventist Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Vellore was honoured at a function organised on the school premises here on Friday.P. Karthikeyan, Mayor of Vellore, presented to him the certificate he received from the Limca Book of Records detailing his achievement.

An example: Pointing out that it was Mr. Navakumar's hard work, which brought him the distinction of an entry in the Limca Book of Records, Mr. Karthikeyan appealed to the students to emulate the example of Navakumar to succeed in their life. "Hard work alone will bring success," he said.School correspondent A. Vijayakumar presided over the function.
