Notebooks given away

Free notebooks, donated by Noble Foundation, were distributed to students of Sourashtra Co-educational Higher Secondary School by T. N. Vathsals, managing trustee, on June 17. Headmaster T.H. Lakshmanan, M.B. Madhavadass, K. L. Baskaran and O.R. Kannan spoke.
World Oceans Day

World Oceans Day was celebrated at Siddhu Matriculation Higher Secondary School on June 8. C. Divya of standard XI delivered a speech on how people spoiled the oceans and the ways to save them. P. Arul Mozhi Devan of standard IX provided information on peculiar organisms and usefulness of oceans. Students went around the school campus holding placards that carried messages on the need to protect oceans.
Saplings planted

A cleaning campaign and planting of tree saplings marked the World Environment Day celebration at Rotary Laharry Matriculation Higher Secondary School on June 5. Students planted saplings to contribute to the sustainable development of the environment.
Love plants

A skit on love plants featured the World Environment Day celebrated at Maruthu Rukmani Matriculation School on June 5.

The highlight of the programme was distribution of different varieties of seeds to students, to create awareness of preservation of environment. They also took a pledge to conserve the environment.
Inaugurated

Various associations of St. Clarets Higher Secondary School, Karumathur, were inaugurated by R. Chockalingam, president, Kaviarasu Kannadasan Narpani Mandram, on June 12. In his address, Mr. Chockalingam exhorted the students to develop reading habit to scale new heights in life.

Annual athletic meet

A colourful cultural programme marked the 121st annual athletic meet of the Saint Josephs Boys Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School held at Coonoor recently.

With hundreds of athletes vying for honours, the Azad house with 208 points emerged victorious.

It was followed by Tagore house (175),Gandhi house (130) and Prasad House (112).

The Deputy Commandant, Madras Regimental Centre, Colonel S.S.Judge participated as the Chief Guest.

Basketball tournament

A district-level basketball tournament was conducted by V.S.K. Duraiswamy Nadar English Matriculation and Higher Secondary School, Sivakasi, in which four schools participated. Kshatriya Girls Higher Secondary School lifted the Sri A.S.C. Bose Trophy and P.S. Chidambaram Nadar Senior English School, Virudhunagar, won the Smt. Kanchana Bose Trophy. The tournament was inaugurated by J. Baskar. A. Santhan distributed the prizes.
Self-confidence camp

A camp on self-confidence was organised for students of Greenfields Nursery and Primary School, Watrap. Writer Aruppukottai Rajapandi, who was the resource person, spoke on how students could attain self-confidence so as to score high marks. Gurupackiam, correspondent, presided over the camp. The Principal Selvarani welcomed the gathering. Kathiresan, president, Kandar Sashti Festival Committee, also addressed the students.

Raksha Bandhan

To inculcate a sense of true love and affection in the minds of young children, Akshaya Academy, Palani, organised Raksha Bandhan. The chairman, Purushothaman, presided over the function.

Sangeetha of Standard VII spoke. The Senior Principal, Chandrasekaran, spoke. The girls chanted the mantras and tied rakhis on the wrists of their brothers.
Students honoured

A function to honour students who had scored above 450 marks in the public examinations was held at Christhuraja Matriculation School, Tiruppattur. The Parent-Teacher Association president Prem Kumar presided over the function. Sivaganga Oxford Matriculation School correspondent Shyamala and the school Academic Development Council president Parvathi presented the medals and prizes to the top rankers. Thanga Eswari of N.M. Government Girls Higher Secondary School, who had s cored centum in mathematics, science and social science subjects, was the star attraction. The top ranking students of Christhuraja School Manish Kumar, Mani Raj and Gopinath were also honoured.
